Onassis Scholars' Association

The great scholars family

The Association’s more than 2,500 Greek and international members have all been awarded grants and scholarships by the Onassis Foundation, and this family of people – who are redefining tomorrow today – grows larger with each passing year.

Like a family

The extended family that is the Onassis Scholar’s Association first emerged in 1978, when the Onassis Foundation launched its scholarship program for academics from all over the world. Just a few years later, in 1986, the Onassis Scholar’s Association began to take its current form on the initiative of the Public Benefit Foundation’s first scholarship fellows, who had by then completed their studies.

Today, the Onassis Scholars’ Association boasts more than 2,500 members, all of whom have been awarded research grants and/or scholarships as part of the Onassis Foundation’s scholarship program for Greek and international academics – young people who are leading lights from the spheres of science, letters, and the arts in the countries where they live and work.

Α strong and dynamic community of distinguished academics and active professionals

The Onassis Foundation’s scholarship program was founded, and continues to operate, on the deep-seated belief that social progress is actuated collectively; on the transformative power of society’s unleashed potential, which in turn further drives societal development; on the provision of open access to educational opportunities and knowledge, for the benefit of as many people as possible; and on an investment in excellence – an added value that at some point feeds back into society.
