Special Education

A unique approach to learning

Every kid can learn, they just need to learn in their own way.

For us, Special Education is the route to every kid enjoying access to knowledge, art and the joy of learning. Because every child has their own style, their own rhythm and pace when it comes to learning, but also to succeeding.

Since 2013, the Onassis Foundation has been creating workshops and educational activities designed to release the potential of children with disabilities

While the way we learn, have fun and communicate may be different in Special Education, the goal remains the same: ensuring parents and children have the right to the sort of "escape" only knowledge, art and communication can provide.

Since 2013, the Onassis Foundation has been creating workshops and educational activities designed to release the potential of children with disabilities in Athens and cities throughout Greece. Using music and artistic expression, they have opened up new creative options which continue to expand and evolve. Through collaborations with Special Education institutions and schools that share the Onassis Foundation's values and are not afraid to innovate, we run hands-on workshops for teachers and other professionals who work in the field of Special Education.

In addition to its educational programs, the Onassis Foundation supports special schools and integration programs through the donation of books, equipment and teaching aids that help special educators do the best job they can. At the same time, our Scholarship Program includes post-graduate studies and doctoral research in the area of Special Education at universities in Greece and abroad. Special Education of the Onassis Foundation supports classes for adults, as the iDance program, for people with and without physical disabilities, intellectual disabilities or visual impairments.
