Digital material | CD: “A Small Window”
Songs and melodies for children with and without Autism Spectrum Disorder
Joy, friendship, and the emotions have been turned into musical notes – a series of songs from composer Dimitris Papadimitriou and poet Michalis Ganas, for every child. Their CD is being made available by the Onassis Foundation.
“A Small Window” is here, with music for children with and without autism spectrum disorder (ASD), and for their parents, teachers, and friends. Inspired by the tenor and intent of the tried and tested “Music Loves Autism” educational program, composer Dimitris Papadimitriou and poet Michalis Ganas have written melodies and lyrics that, through the use of rhythmic motifs, can be used as creative means of encouraging spontaneity and flexible thinking in safe and pleasing ways.
Singing all together makes simple everyday moments, emotions, and reactions easier to understand, and is a way of bringing more music and more inspiration into our lives.
This music collection can be used in school settings, but also at home, as a starting point for improving children’s relationships with their classmates and parents, facilitating communication and social interaction among children with ASD. Two of the songs – “Daddy, Where Are We Going?” and “One Little Window” – are aimed first and foremost at adults.
