For more than ten years, the Onassis Foundation has been taking a stand with actions, programs, partnerships, workshops, and training for people with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and their families. This year, on the occasion of World Autism Awareness Day on April 2, Onassis Foundation dedicates the entire month to people and the set of actions that can create a better place in society for people with ASD.

Take a stand on Autism

What do children, adolescents, and adults with Autism Spectrum Disorder look for? What do their families seek? What do professionals working in the field of special education request?

Education, information, awareness, empathy, acceptance, equality, inclusion, empowerment, and opportunity are just a few words that could be part of the answers to these complex and undoubtedly timely questions. Or simply a better place for people with ASD in society.

Today, it is estimated that an increasing number of children are being diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder. It is a number that translates into millions of children and adults worldwide and simultaneously affects the entire society in many ways. Since 2012, the Onassis Foundation has actively and consistently embraced diversity, encouraged more positive attitudes and behaviors, and invested in education and awareness.

For a better place for people with ASD in society, take a stand on Autism

This year, on the occasion of World Autism Awareness Day on April 2, the entire month is dedicated to several educational activities. Therefore, we are addressing different groups of the public: parents who are looking to find their place within their child's therapeutic intervention by participating in “Learning together: An experiential workshop for parents of children with Autism Spectrum Disorder,” families who offer the place of words to notes and communicate through music with the program "Music Loves Autism," special educators, therapists, mental health professionals, doctors, and nursing staff of the Onassis Hospital, and all those who want to be informed and educated about ASD. Specially designed programs, such as "Music Loves Autism | Experiential workshops for teachers, 2023–2024” and "In the Heart of Autism," aim to create a more fair, inclusive, and, eventually, democratic world for people with ASD.

Discover all the programs, activities, and educational material that the Onassis Foundation creates and offers free of charge to people who are looking, interested, asking, learning, and ultimately taking a stand on autism.
