Digital Material | Autism training – Raising awareness among national and municipal Greek Police Force personnel

To help forge a diverse society made better through cooperation and inclusion, the Onassis Foundation is creating and sharing digital learning materials to raise awareness among national and municipal Greek Police Force personnel about autism spectrum disorder (ASD).

With a view to keeping national and municipal Greek Police Forces well-informed following the successful completion of training sessions with officers and their superiors across both bodies, the Onassis Foundation is creating useful learning materials –shared online– for all those who wish to learn more about persons with autism spectrum disorder (ASD).

Getting around the city and using busy roads, with all the intense sound and visual stimuli this entails, can cause persons with ASD great difficulty and stress. Their resulting behaviors may be considered socially unacceptable or even breaches of the peace.

A short leaflet, produced by specialists but written in simple language, serves as a basic guide to understanding the reactions and behaviors of people with ASD, while also giving practical advice on how best to enable and assist our fellow citizens.

The Onassis Foundation actively and systematically embraces diversity, encouraging more positive outlooks and behaviors, and investing in education and awareness-raising campaigns.

We are all here to listen, to learn, and to accept.
