Tech Transfer

Research, technology transfer, and value creation

A series of workshops for the development and enhancement of research and innovation in Greece.

The Onassis Foundation, the Sectoral Scientific Council of Technology Transfer and Intellectual Property of the National Council for Research, Technology and Innovation (ESETEK) and Uni.Fund are organizing, for a second year, a series of workshops on the Commercial Uses of Research and Technology Transfer at Greek Universities and Research Centers. The series is addressed to Tech Transfer Offices (TTO) in universities and research centers in Greece, as well as to affiliated professionals of this field.

The Onassis Foundation Tech Transfer program is a joint collaboration with Uni.Fund, the Sectoral Scientific Council of Technology Transfer and Intellectual Property of the National Council for Research, Technology and Innovation (ESETEK), as well as the Tech Transfer Structures Science Agora, Archimedes, GNΩSI, SPEIRA, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, and Democritus University of Thrace, aiming at the development and support of the research and innovation community in Greece. With an experience of more than four decades in research support and counting more than 7,000 fellows in leading institutions around the world, the Onassis Foundation proceeds to the systematic support of the interaction between the academic research field and the field of innovation.

What is Tech Transfer?

Τech Transfer concerns a series of workshops that discuss how Commercial Uses of Research and Technology Transfer can be supported in Greece. The four meetings to be held at Onassis Stegi are a continuation of the Tech Transfer series of webinars co-organized by Uni.Fund and the Onassis Foundation during the period from November 2022 to May 2021.

Through the four meetings of the second Tech Transfer cycle, creative dialogue is being opened up around the ways in which: research conducted at Greek universities and research centers can receive targeted support from Technology Transfer Structures to aid the creation of products and services; research can be protected by patent protocols and other intellectual property tools; and value can be created, at the end of the day, for all parties involved.

They are addressed to members of Tech Transfer Offices and Structures and broadly to members of the academic and research community in Greece, as well as organizations that share an interest in Tech Transfer and the development of support structures for Entrepreneurship and Innovation.

Some words about Uni.Fund

Uni.Fund was founded in January 2018, with an orientation towards Innovation Window and Technology Transfer. Uni.Fund’s goal is to evaluate and fund (in a pre-seed and seed stage) companies that are active in the fields of information technology, e-commerce, and the broader tech space, as well as the promotion of the work force that exists in Greek universities and research centers for business employment. The fund is closely collaborating with the existing structures supporting entrepreneurship (academic centers of entrepreneurship, incubators, etc.) across Greece, in the pursuit of innovative startup companies or business ideas that maintain a high technology readiness level. Uni.Fund was created through the EquiFund, an investment initiative of the Greek State in cooperation with the European Investment Fund (EIF).

The goal of ΕquiFund is to facilitate access of mostly Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (SMEs) to funding, by creating venture capital in Greece, in collaboration with specialized mediating funding bodies. Except for ΕquiFund, the fund managed by Uni.Fund is co-managed by the fund’s management team, the National Bank of Greece, Eurobank, VivaWallet group, the Onassis Foundation, as well as private investors.
