How code and creativity can change the world? Steve Vranakis, Executive Creative Director of Google Creative Lab, talks about the real “digital revolution”.
Steve’s worked in digital, design and advertising agencies all over the world including Vancouver, Hong Kong, New York, San Francisco and now London.
Some of his recent projects while at Google include: Inside Abbey Road, Project Jacquard an interactive fabric made from conductive threads, Chrome Web Lab, a series of interactive experiments connected live to the internet from the Science Museum in London, Jam with Chrome, a web based platform that lets you play music live with your friends from anywhere, DevArt an exhibition at the Barbican which heroes coders as creatives and Google Science Fair a global platform that invites youth to put their ideas forward to change the world.
Other notable projects include: The World Wonders Project, which gives access to the world’s heritage sites through Street View and the YouTube Space Lab Channel and launch video which invited teens from all over the world to send their science experiments to space in partnership with NASA and judged by Stephen Hawking. To date it has received over 50 million channel views.
Steve’s work has been recognized by the Cannes Lions, D&AD, ADC, One Show's, Campaign Big Awards, BTA’s, The FWA, Clio's, Revolution, New Media Age, London International Advertising and the Andy Awards. His work has been featured in “WIRED”, “The New York Times”, “Telegraph”, “Wall Street Journal”, “Creative Review”, “Huffington Post”, “FT”, “Design Week”, “Adage”, and he’s written columns for “Adweek”, “Marketing”, “Campaign”, “Revolution”, “New Media Age”, “Cre@te Magazine”, and conducted television interviews with the BBC and CNBC Europe.
In December 2012 Steve was honored to speak at TEDx in Athens about “Making technology matter”.
He believes that technology combined with creativity can be used as a force for good and allow for people to come up with ideas that change the world.
