Educational material in digital form

It is often said that you are not born a parent, but you rather become one. As stressful as this may sound, it can also be liberating for any new parent. Discover an alternative way of educating your children, and stay positive.

Parent and child are born at the same moment. No one is prepared for what is arguably their most important role in life. The cornerstone of positive parenting consists in the rewarding of children’s positive behavior, respect, and the constructive correction of their mistakes; this way, this model presents parents with another approach and an alternative way to educate and lead an everyday life.

In this context, the Onassis Foundation proceeded to the creation of two comprehensive guides, aiming to support new parents and aspiring to encourage them in the first steps of the joint journey with their offspring: the first focuses on the children’s developmental milestones and includes practical guidelines to strengthen their skills and behaviors; while the second centers on the principles of enhancing parent-child relationships and positive parenting.

Furthermore, as part of its efforts both to support new parents and to promote healthy child development, the Onassis Foundation partnered with the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens (NKUA) First Department of Pediatrics at the “Aghia Sofia” General Children’s Hospital to present –on Saturday, January 28, 2023– two comprehensive guides inside a packed Choremio Amphitheater at the university clinic. The presentation of both these guides (which includes the discussion that followed) has been made available online and is free to stream.

In the digital educational material that is openly available, you will find practical advice and instructions for a more positive interaction with the child, depending on their developmental stage, as well as ways to avoid negative behaviors, voices, and “don’ts”!
