Introduction
Discussions with artists and curators of the exhibition, as well as with members of the academic and professional community of Ioannina, on the relationship of technology with tradition, art, the future, and history.
On June 18 from 11:00 to 17:00, a series of discussions approach different sides and voices of the city; they represent another attempt to immerse in place and time through materials and technologies that seek a parallel reality, an alternative narrative, and history.
The Plásmata II: Ioannina discussion series aims to address at large the case of a critical approach to technology and its relationship with space, particularly public space. Situated between the pre-modern technology of the wall and the lake, between the palimpsest of human interventions and their weaving with the natural environment, the exhibition bears the special trait of shedding light not only on the works of which is comprised but also several spots along the route appended as observation points. The quest for para-modernity at Paralimnio, i.e. the lakeside road, ensues from an attempt to see technology not plainly as a hegemonic device, but as an opportunity for the expression of diverse subjectivities and an occasion to seek those mechanisms that can actually enable this.
The discursive events realized concurrently in the framework of the exhibition – the lectures and discussions, as well as the podcasts that approach different aspects and voices within the city – constitute an attempt to immerse ourselves in place and time through materials and technologies in force that veer us away from the context of the modern, without nullifying or denying it, but seeking instead a parallel reality, an alternative narrative and history. Through myth and solace, the assorted localities of art and tradition, as well as the natural and social ecosystems of the Ioannina region, we aspire to talk on our para-modern status, searching for its multiple manifestations in our everyday life, as well as its projections on possible supra-local and collective futures.
The discussion series will be joined by artists and curators of the exhibition, as well as members of the academic and professional community of Ioannina.
