Introduction
How virtual is the reality we live in today? What are the stories worth narrated in the present? A two-day workshop on the art of AR and VR, paving the way for new incentives.
Athens is connected to New York in a two-day workshop for artists who work with Augmented (AR) and Virtual (VR) Reality technologies. In collaboration with pioneering artists New Reality Co, Wearable Media, and Sarah Rorthberg, the participants explore the way in which way technology amplifies the embodied experience, enlivening our senses and offering multiple pathways for engagement.
The participants of this workshop will be professionals who have already presented accomplished work and research on AR and VR technologies. Through trials, experimentations, new practices, and a design exercise that will culminate in the creation of an original piece, the participants will develop their professional skills and knowledge, and respond to the challenges posed by today’s art and technology landscape.

During day one, participants will warm up their creative muscles and get hands-on experience with some of the leading edge creative and technical techniques being used in AR, VR and tech-enabled materials, and will learn to use digital and physical materials in order to create their own worlds and narratives. Pioneering artists New Reality Co, Wearable Media and Sarah Rothberg will share their experience and expertise, and will help them create new hybrid and affective environments. As a group, the artists will explore what it means for technology to assist in embodied experience by enlivening our senses and offering multiple pathways for engagement, redefining the boundaries between physical and digital.

19:00-21:00 | Talk
On the second day, participants will apply their technical learnings to a design challenge that culminates in a prototype. Together with the mentors, they will ground this creative process in the business realities of today’s art and technology landscape, finding the best means for the delivery of their final product.
The masterclass and talk will take place in English, without interpretation.
