Organmeetings

When knowledge and information help give life a second chance

A new series of awareness raising webinars for adults, along with the first comprehensive guide in Greece on organ donation and transplantation have been developed to address doubts, give answers and provide proper information to citizens. Because organ donation is an issue that concerns us all.

Organmeetings is a new program developed by the Onassis Foundation under the scientific auspices of the Hellenic Transplant Organization and with the collaboration of Onassis Cardiac Surgery Center, structured around two pillars: First, a comprehensive information and awareness guide on organ donation and transplantation has been developed, which can be browsed and downloaded from the link at the bottom of this webpage. Moreover, a new ongoing communication channel with citizens is launched through webinars for media, institutions, bodies, organizations - either private or public, associations that engage in social projects but also companies and enterprises, which would like to link their CSR policy with awareness raising for organ donation.

The webinars will be hosted by specialized representatives and associates of the Hellenic Transplant Organization with the support of the Onassis Foundation and any interested party can fill in the relevant registration form.

“He woke up from his coma just before they removed his organs to be donated: Does this quote, which can be found more often than not in the media, reflect reality or is it a wrong medical statement, distorting the actual circumstances? Who could donate organs suitable for transplantation, what is brain death and how is it different from coma? What is the selection process of suitable recipients for each organ and how is impartiality ensured? How can I register for an organ donor card? What is organ trade and why is it not happening in Greece and Europe? Reasonable questions, but also biases that have been reproduced over time, now find answers through the Organmeetings webinars and the handy informative guide that accompanies them. In order to become a link in the chain of life, in order not to let myths and misinformation negatively affect the miracle of organ donation.

Who might need a solid organ transplantation?

Awareness raising sessions by Organmeetings

The first two webinars for this year took place on 22 March and 24 May 2023, while the last Organmeeting for 2023 will take place on 5 December (at 15:00). The new dates for 2024 are to be announced soon.

If you represent any media, , body, association engaged in social projects, public or private organization or if you are interested in linking the CRS policy of the company you work for, to awareness-raising about Organ Donation, now you can fill in the registration form and receive the link for the webinar in order to share it with your colleagues or the members of your association on the day of the presentation.

The webinars will be hosted by specialized representatives and associates of the Hellenic Transplant Organization with the support of the Onassis Foundation and the Onassis Cardiac Surgery Center.

How does the program work?

First of all, it should be clarified that the project is not addressed to individuals, but to groups of adults, so that through our workplace or our association, we can collectively become a link and grow the chain of life created by Organmeetings. A chain of information and awareness with the objective to give answers to any question regarding organ donation, by debunking myths and stereotypes which unfortunately are reproduced till this day.

Should you represent one of the above-mentioned bodies, you may participate at the webinar at your chosen date. The form can be filled-in only by executives who can organize actions, such as awareness raising for the collective participation of their employees/members, according to their role and capacity (e.g. Human Resources Manager, Marketing Manager, Association Chair etc.).

Every company, medium or body that participates will be certified by the Hellenic Transplant Organization, which in an annual ceremony will award the certificate to the relevant representative, accompanied by a small memento for every participant. The certification will last for three years. In this way, we can all become ambassadors of organ donation, leading through example and motivating our fellow citizens to follow our lead and become links to the chain of life.

2023 Webinar Dates

The dates for the webinars in 2023 are the following:

22 March, 24 May and 5 December 2023. Every webinar will start at 15:00 and will last for about one and half hour. Places are allocated on a first come, first served basis.

Questions and answers regarding the program

-Is there any limit to the number of employees or members who can participate in the program?

No, there is no limit to the number of participants, nor a minimum neither a maximum number of people. The certification will be valid and granted even with the minimum participation.

They are offered only online. Our goal is the various bodies, associations, companies etc. to join their forces online creating a big chain of hope and solidarity.

- Is it possible for a company or a body to participate in the webinar for a second time with different participants/members?

Of course, provided that the first webinar is over before registering again.
