November begins with the Wikipedia Challenge!

In the context of the Panhellenic Student Competition “Wikipedia Challenge: Become a Contemporary Encyclopedist” which focuses on the events and people of the 1821 Revolution, we offer interactive online webinars for the preparation of school teams – an induction to the world of the largest digital encyclopedia for secondary-education students and teachers from Greece and abroad.

The webinars aim at familiarizing participants with Wikipedia, its culture and principles, but also with practical issues that a Wikipedia user in the making will encounter entering this digital environment: choice of sources, copyright issues, and appropriate wording, among others. They also offer the opportunity to develop digital and research skills, enriching their knowledge in the subjects of history, language, and literature.

Wikipedia is a unique ecosystem with active players. Surviving in such an environment presupposes collaboration, critical thinking, emotion control, and a good knowledge of its tools.

The Wikipedia Webinar Series will offer students-participants important tools needed for the new world they are about to enter. They will introduce them to the art of collaborative writing, enabling them to write entries that will make history.
