How do technology, design, and collaboration unlock challenges in design, engineering, and community engagement? How is tradition being combined with technology and how is the processing of raw materials and the art of weaving being reintroduced to communities and younger generations?

Many of the wool production techniques have remained unchanged since the last century. Traditional techniques that represent local cultural heritage, and may be more relevant from an environmental or social point of view, are in danger of being lost. From the sheep to the finished product, we will present the wool cycle and the types found in Epirus. With the help of digital fabrication machines, we will create the 3D tools that will help us in the weaving process. Small wooden looms of different shapes will be produced by cutting wood in a laser cutting machine. Participants will assemble them, spin the warp and start weaving their own creation. The shuttles will be made on a 3D printer. Participants will have the opportunity to see how the looms were designed and constructed, and will take home their own woven fabric at the end of the workshop.
