What sorts of relationships and dynamics are emerging between our bodies, the environment, and artificial intelligence? What are neural networks and datasets, and how can a machine see if it doesn’t have eyes? What might a tree growing in Pedion tou Areos Park tell us about the relationship between technology, the self, and nature? Can a machine have personality and imagination? What sort of materials are the exhibition’s “plásmata” made of, and what sort of beings are they?

"Quantum Memories - Probability" by Refik Anadol

Data and algorithms, human and post-human identities all interact to create new beings. Creative guided tours for all the family have been designed as part of the “Plásmata: Bodies, Dreams, and Data” exhibition, taking in “constellations of works” set inside Pedion tou Areos Park. Incorporating educational activities, the tours hope to help visitors – both young and old – understand and think about the issues tackled by the exhibited works. Come discover Plásmata with us, and together we’ll explore every environmental, human, and cultural facet displayed by new technologies.

The tour takes in select works and includes a participatory educational activity to help children creatively understand the exhibits, with an emphasis placed on dialogue, observation, and the imagination.

Here’s just some of the things we’ll be seeing on our journey: how an artificial intelligence acquires an imagination (Refik Anadol – “Quantum Memories”), how a neural network is trained to construct sculptures inspired by the statues that stand inside Pedion tou Areos Park (Christian Mio Loclair – “Helin”), and how data dramatization can produce hypothetical scenarios about the future of humankind and of the planet (Liam Young – “Planet City”).
