On Friday, April 7, 2023, at 19:00-22:00, we are happy to invite you to Onassis AiR for the fifth Open Day of the Tailor-made Fellowships Program. Our current Fellows —Marianna Christofides, Bryony Dunne, Dorota Gawęda and Eglė Kulbokaitė, Manolis Manousakis, Theo Prodromidis, Eleni Riga, and MOVEMENT I (Federica Bueti, Anastasia Diavasti, Moriah Evans, Daniel Hui, and Sumusan Sivanesan)— will present their artistic research and work-in-progress through various presentations that will unfold throughout the evening.

Program

19:00-22:00

Marianna Christofides will screen a short cinematic episode from her long-term research in Japan on man-made catastrophes and ecological disasters. A filmed performance turns into a eulogy for the fish lost from the Shiranui Sea following the methylmercury poisoning in the 1950s.

For the Open Day, Dorota Gawęda and Eglė Kulbokaitė will present one of the video pieces from the series 'Mouthless', that transfuses different bodies of knowledge across space and time, weaving together seemingly disparate fields —ecology and technology, science and magic, nonhuman intelligence and shared speculation.

As part of his practice-based research on situated artistic practices, communal action and cultural institutions, Theo Prodromidis will present an aural experience derived from the 8th of March Feminist Strike manifestation in Madrid.

19:00-22:00 Screening (in loop) | 21:00 Discussion with the artist

Bryony Dunne will show a film-in-progress from a research trip to Crete where she met with local fishing communities and scientists, to trace the symbolic existence of the toxic pufferfish (lagocephalus sceleratus) in the Mediterranean Sea. The footage is combined with elements of science fiction, exploring Japanese Kaiju Godzilla films, as ways to think about creatures that are often alienated and have mythical qualities to them.

19:15 & every half an hour | Sound piece

Manolis Manousakis and Eleni Riga will present a sound composition that consists of soundscapes and interviews with old and new neighbours of Kypseli area in Αthens, part of their ongoing quest of the sound of eudaimonia in the city.

19:30, 20:30, 21:30 WE WILL PITCH IT

WE (Federica Bueti, Anastasia Diavasti, Daniel Hui, Moriah Evans, and Sumusan Sivanesan), who met during The School of Infinite Rehearsals 2020-21, will pitch IT, a collective work-in-progress that questions and expands the role of art within bureaucracies and infrastructures.

About the Open Days

Functioning like an open studio, the Open Days is a series of monthly events that will run throughout the year and are open to the public. This is an opportunity to meet and exchange with our fellows as well as to learn more about their artistic research through short talks, presentations, workshops or screenings that aim to shed light on their research trajectory and work in-progress. The format of the Open Days is shaped based on the needs and artistic practice of the fellows each time. Running between September 2022 to July 2023 the Tailor-made Fellοwships is an open-ended program offering time and space, tailored to the individual research needs of each participant.
