Manolis Manousakis

Born in Athens, he studied composition and direction at Columbia College Chicago in Illinois. In 2007, he graduated from the Ionian University (Department of Music Studies) with a masters in Sonic Arts and Audio Technologies. In 2016, he completed his doctoral thesis – titled “Cross-arts Production Methods Utilizing Collectives” – at De Montfort University.
Manolis Manousakis has worked as a composer and sound designer since 1998. His oeuvre includes works for small ensembles, solos, electroacoustic compositions, video art, and multimedia shows. He has also written music and created sound design for films, interactive installations, theater shows, documentaries, television series, and dance theater productions.
Since 2009, he has made field recordings in areas of Athens (Neos Kosmos, Kerameikos, Gazi, and Metaxourgio), across Greece (Sellasia in Sparta, and Kera, Rokka and Chania on Crete), and around the world (Montreal in Canada, and areas of Lebanon), using them to create soundscapes and interactive audio documentaries.
He is a founding member of the Medea Electronique arts collective.
Manolis Manousakis is a participant of the Onassis AiR Exchange Residencies Program at Beirut Art Residency (Lebanon) for 2019-20, of the Tailor-Made Fellowships program for 2022-23 collaborating with Eleni Riga, and of the Onassis ONX program for 2023-24.
