Hommage to Dimitris Dimitriadis

As part of this season’s tribute to Dimitris Dimitriadis, the Onassis Stegi will, in addition to staging his play “The Circle of the Square”, be presenting another three of his works which have never been performed in Greece in the form of directed readings. Directed by the celebrated Yannis Kokkos, the talented Argyro Chioti and Elli Papakonstantinou, the three works by the great Greek author tackle our troubled identity, the dissolution of the Home and the civil war within us. In so doing, they prove themselves supremely relevant to our here and now.

“Ekkenosis”

The internationally celebrated set designer and director, Yannis Kokkos, assumes the direction of the “Ekkenosis”, a work which, in its author’s words, “talks about today’s world and its extremes through a mythical family, the Atreides”.

“Phaethon”

The controversial Argyro Chioti and the Vasistas company undertake the direction of “Phaethon”, a parable for our times which transposes the archetypal rivalry between son and father-Sun into the present day.

“Touching the Bottom of the Sea”

Elli Papakonstantinou brings her directorial daring to bear on the “Touching the Bottom of the Sea”, in which, as she notes, “The lead role is played by the home, a ‘living’ home/ set which is gradually deconstructed to reveal the clash between the reality of survival and the no-place dead-end of the straitened bourgeois world”.
