People travel from all corners of the globe to photograph Athens. Now it’s our turn! We’ll take our cameras and cell phones and go out on a photowalk, recording the city and its monuments as we see them.

Athens has been a beloved subject for European travelers beginning in the 16th century. During their stay in the city, they recorded moments of daily life and included sketches of the city’s monuments in travel guides and works of literature.

How would your own gaze capture the city today if you photographed it only with your cell phone? What do the Herod Atticus Theater, the Ancient Theater of Dionysus, and the Dionysiou Areopagitou Street look like through your eyes? What’s your own personal Athens like?

Using your imagination, taste, and aesthetics, create a contemporary album of Athens—because a city’s history comes alive and is renewed each time we interpret it from our own point of view.

Once we’ve been introduced to the fundamentals of photographic technique (point of view, composition, framing) and learn some important rules of the photographic art that will help you in your efforts, the field is wide open to your own creativity.
