Can you imagine how difficult it used to be to get a book? Spreading knowledge was hard and incredibly expensive. All that was before Gutenberg invented mass produced type, i.e. the mechanical reproduction of texts on paper. Would you like to know how he did it?

This is the time-capsule workshop. Because we are about to travel to the 15th century, when books were not easily available. That is when Johannes Gutenberg came up with one of the most significant inventions in the world. He invented mechanical printing, the way we print on paper, an invention that paved the way to education, science and culture.

Here, in the Library, you can actually see from up close a copy of the first work he produced, the Bible. In consists of two volumes of exceptional technique and typography and it is an object that will help you and your classmates to understand the importance of the art of printing.

Then, we will visit the printing shop of a contemporary Gutenberg together and he will show us how he prints a book from beginning to end, even how he melts the metal in a small pot to shape it into a letter. At the end, there will be a small present for you. A little stamp with your own name.
