Introduction
Τhe Cavafy archive becomes a point of reference and exploration through language games, new technologies, and movement. Do you want to get creative with material from Cavafy’s personal archive?
A very different kind of educational program is waiting for you in a world of photographs, letters, notes, and poems, all from the archive of C. P. Cavafy. Here you won’t just read—you’ll play loud music, imagine, create, dare, and, in the end, get to know the inexhaustible poetry of Cavafy, thanks to a program that has been running since 2013 in schools in Attica and other regions.
New technologies, improvised editions, and dance become the tools for three unique creative workshops, which will help you feel Cavafy’s poetry. Read his poems, browse the digital collection of the Cavafy Archive, write your own lines, illustrate, create your own editions—digital or not—and dance to your favorite poem, line by line.Just as Cavafy used to print and distribute single sheets bearing his poems, in the workshop “A poem, an image, an edition,” led by a poet and an artist, students will read Cavafy’s work, be inspired by his poetry, and create their own handmade, illustrated editions.
In the workshop “Verses made of movement,” students approach Cavafy’s work through the “vehicle” of bodily movement and the art of dance. Through a series of exercises that encourage self-expression as well as team-building, students explore Cavafy’s poetic universe.
In the workshop “Electrified poetry, ” Cavafy enters the contemporary moment: he becomes video, image, and digital installation.
