André Wilms

"Eraritjaritjaka" is renowned Alsatian actor André Wilms’ third production with Heiner Goebbels, following "Ou bien le débarquement désastreux" (1993) and "Max Black" (1998).

Born in 1947 in Strasbourg, Wilms has also worked as an actor under the direction of Klaus Michael Grüber in Goethe’s "Faust", Büchner’s "The Death of Danton", and Nabokov’s "The Pole".

With director André Engel, he has appeared in Brecht’s "Baal", Beckett’s "Waiting for Godot", and "The Night of the Hunters", based on Büchner’s "Woyzeck". Additionally, Wilms has performed under Jean Jourdheuil and Jean-François Peyret in Heiner Müller’s "Paysage sous surveillance", Shakespeare’s "The Sonnets", and Lucrèce’s "La Nature des choses"; under Deborah Warner in "La Maison de poupée"; and under Michel Deutsch in "Imprécation II, IV, and 36".

He has also appeared in films written and directed by Aki Kaurismaki ("La Vie de bohěme", 1993 Félix Prize / "Le Havre", 2011, Le Prix Louis-Delluc), Etienne Chatilliez, Michel Deville, and François Dupeyron and most recently "Über Ich und Du" directed by Benjamin Heisenberg (2014).

Since the late 80s, André Wilms has worked as a director for performing arts and opera producing an impressive body of work. As a stage director, Wilms has led his own productions of Béla Bartók’s "Le Château de Barbe Bleue", Philippe Hersant’s "Le Château des Carpathes", Marquis de Sade’s "La Philosophie dans le boudoir", Brecht’s "La Noce chez les petits bourgeois", "The Bacchae" by Euripides and Biljana Srbljanovic’s "Histoires de famille", among others. He has directed works for a number of festivals and venues including Festival International de Montpellier, Opéra de Montpellier, Munich Marstall, Théâtre de la Colline, Nanterre, Francfort, Comédie Française, Festival de Schwetzonger, Théâtrede l’Athénée Louis-Jouvet.
