Introduction

How do Intermedial Theater and performance respond to the economic crisis facing Western societies or the revolutionary movements in the Arab world? What roles are citizens/audiences being called on to play?

In the context of the 1st Fast Forward Festival, the Onassis Stegi, in collaboration with the Intermediality in Theatre and Performance working group of the International Federation for Theatre Research (ΙFTR), is staging a two-day international conference on “Μedia, Politics, Performance: The role of Intermedial Theater in public space”.

Areas to be examined by the conference include: What is the role of Intermedial Theatre and performance in a public space mediated by the Media? How do Intermedial Theatre and performance respond to current political and social issues such as the economic crisis facing Western societies, revolutionary movements in the Arab world or the expansion of corporate and cyber culture? What roles are citizens/audiences being called on to play in a world mediated by the Media? What are the functions of immersion and their active participation at the current stage in the critical transformations of public space?

The symposium includes an academic program of talks, pecha kucha presentations and dramatic interventions.
