Onassis Digital Library

Digitization is opening up the collections of the Onassis Library to the public.

The Onassis Foundation has been investing in providing visitors with open access to digitized material, seeking to showcase the wealth of cultural material contained in the Onassis Library's three large collections.

The Hellenic Library was digitized in its entirety in 2016

Open access, open knowledge

The Onassis Library's digital apps address an Onassis Foundation priority: providing the public with open access to cultural heritage and knowledge. Given that education and culture are the core pillars informing its activities, the Onassis Foundation began digitizing the Onassis Library's three large collections early, back in 2013. The first phase was completed in 2016 and included 110,000 documents from the Hellenic Library, during 2017 more than 2.000 items, pertaining to the Cavafy archive, were digitized. Thanks to the use of new technologies, the visitor can now leaf through and study rare editions interactively.
