Introduction
Our historic library – which houses thousands of rare books, documents, and artefacts – is offering four interactive workshops where you can learn the secrets and the art of books, from the inside out.
If you like travelling back in time, or you’re the artistic type, or you’re interested in crafts and activities – or even if you’re a child raised on new technologies who likes to flick through books with your fingertips on your phone – then these four workshops are perfect for you, and for your entire class too.
In among the pages and the book covers, the paper and ink and thread, lie secrets passed down through the centuries just waiting to be discovered – to be made yours. Uncover a story that cannot be read, and arts that go unseen. Create and embellish, learn to engrave, to bind, and to conserve, and give the world of books the chance to carry you away – digitally too.
