A tribute to May '68

Cinema constituted one of the protagonists of May '68. For many people, the first true conflicts with the government led by de Gaulle took place a few months earlier, in March, when French filmmakers, with the support of the international cinematic scene, took over the Cinémathèque Française, protesting against the removal of its director and restless guardian of the country’s cinematic heritage, Henri Langlois. At a moment in time which will always be remembered, François Truffault, Jean-Luc Godard, Louis Malle, Roman Polanski and other outstanding creators managed to disrupt the Festival de Cannes, denunciating it as a “regime”.

On the occasion of these two events which left their mark on a whole era, changing the world and cinema of forever, we will watch again two characteristic films which never made it to the Festival de Cannes in 1968, because of its disruption due to the events of May; the emblematic "The Firemen's Ball" by Miloš Forman (who passed away a few days ago) and “Peppermint Frappé” by Carlos Saura, which Pedro Almodóvar always mentions as one of the films that had an impact on him. Together, in a “revolutionary” triple bill, we will watch the Greek premiere of “Godard Mon Amour” (Le Redoutable) by Michel Hazanavicius, which narrates the events of the era as they really happened and, primarily, as they were happening inside the head of Jean-Luc Godard.
