Information

Students across Greece, attending everything from kindergartens right through to high schools, are taking part in the creation of works rooted in educational robotics, artificial intelligence, STEM, and the Internet of things (IoT) through the use of open technology materials and software, and in the production of related open-access educational resources. Discover what’s possible, open yourselves up to the opportunities technology has to offer, and watch as your students make concepts such as the green economy, equity, and openness their own, through their own hard work.

In this Panhellenic educational competition, schools are made creative hives of knowledge and innovation, sharing knowledge through the use of open technologies. Targeted at every school grade, and with the aim of introducing open materials and software but also open-access educational content, this competition broadens horizons, encourages creativity, and boosts experimental practice while supporting the ingenuity and resourcefulness of each child, teen, and young adult taking part.

Students across the country, attending everything from kindergarten right through to high school classes, are being called upon to use their imaginations and, by designing together, to find sustainable solutions to everyday problems. With a view to cultivating empathy and enhancing emotional awareness, and through their engagement with these activities, children and teens will get the chance to discuss and understand –to talk and learn about– such notions as the green economy, social equity, and openness.

The aim is for school students –with their boundless, uninhibited imaginations and unique perspectives– to co-design works that bear their own personal stamp, making best use of the open technologies and software available to be accessed by all. Their works will live on as a legacy for other school students, ready for possible re-use, which is the very cornerstone of openness and equality.

Team proposals are selected to progress to the competition’s implementation stage on the basis of the following criteria:

  1. Use of open technologies
  2. Compatibility with the competition theme
  3. Originality of the ideas
  4. Proposed implementation costs

A detailed list of assessment criteria are available on this webpage: openedtech.ellak.gr/kritiria/

The Onassis Foundation will be supplying student groups and schools with the equipment required for the competition’s implementation stage.
