Thanks to the “Plásmata: Bodies, Dreams, and Data” exhibition, Sofia sets off on a journey of her own inside Pedion tou Areos Park – and we get to follow her. Through storytelling and exploration, she learns a lot about herself, about consciousness, and about interacting with the digital world.

How do social networks affect out standpoints and behaviors? What opportunities does the digital world provide us with? Are we happy when we’re ourselves or when we meet the expectations of others? How can we learn about others by exploring our own selves?

In this educational workshop for children aged nine and over, we follow Sofia on an adventure through Pedion tou Areos Park, on a journey into Plásmata world.

She’s a child who feels good when spending time with her friends, and who’s happy when she senses that her parents love and support her. But there are times when she feels pressured too. When she finds herself wanting things that might seem strange to those around her, and so she avoids doing them. It’s important not to disappoint anyone, and so she prefers to do the things that are expected of her.

One morning, Sofia gets out of bed and realizes that she can’t remember a thing! She doesn’t recognize the objects in her room, the faces in her photos, or the people around her. This scares her, but it’s also an opportunity… To get to know everyone all over again! She goes after what she wants without fear, feels comfortable with her body and her features, and starts to change – starts becoming a different Sofia. The alarm clock goes off and Sofia wakes up. It was all a dream, or rather, a nightmare… She remembers everything now, like before! But what if it wasn’t a nightmare? She can’t shake that feeling she had when she did everything she wanted, without the fear of disappointing people. She felt truly free!

On her way to school, the question that keeps spinning round her head is: Which of those two girls was the real Sofia? The Sofia everyone knows and loves, or an imaginary Sofia that exists in a world of ideas? Which Sofia is happier, more joyful? What would happen if she could make the Sofia of her dreams inside a digital world and give her a new body?

Come let’s find a way to help her, together!
