Introduction

Enter the Onassis Stegi and find out how you can make your neighborhood “sound better”. Pick a team, learn how to distinguish natural and pleasant sounds from noise, din and noise pollution, take measurements, build robots and cooperate in an interactive game that makes a sonic difference in the city.

Not all sounds are pleasant, melodic or interesting, like friends that haven’t seen each other for a while. In every city, in every neighborhood, noise can interfere with the environment and pollute it –that’s why it is called noise pollution– having an impact on the quality of our daily life.

If you are a teenager, interested in the concept of sound, wishing to explore the way in which robotics can make your life better in simple ways, appreciating silence and quiet as much as a concert, then make Stegi your neighborhood for two days.

After a discussion about the problem of noise in the neighborhoods, the simulation of Stegi with your neighborhood begins. Along with other participants, you form groups, scatter across the 18,000 square meters of Stegi, and start building robotic systems with sound sensors, in order to measure noise. Each team transfers the data to a central measuring system, you “translate” these data into conclusions and find ways to tackle the problem of noise.

Technology, teamwork, a little guidance and some inspiration turn this interactive game-workshop into an experience that will change not only your weekend, but also your neighborhood.
