Introduction
‘Communities II’ investigates the future of the Mediterranean through the movement of its people. The event is a meeting between different migrant groups, aiming to record different experiences and practices and to forge new alliances and collaborations by discussing and discovering their common threads.
Discussions and presentations:
Moussa Sangare, president of the Ivorian Community of Greece, will present the advisory work of the communities and their collaboration with policymakers at a European level.
Linda Nyongo, president of the Community of Congo Brazzaville in Greece, will talk about the rights of migrant children in Greece and their access to education.
Effie and Esther will present Habibi. Works, an open intercultural maker space and platform for education, empowerment, and encounters for all communities in Ioannina city. Michalis Afolanyo will present the work of ANASA Cultural Center, ranging from the activism of the second-generation migrant movement to its impact on Greece on a socio-cultural level.
Kareem Kabbani, member of The Syrian Greek Youth Forum, will talk about the archiving of migrant experiences and activities, a live library updated by SGYF over the past few years. This archive focuses on the creativity and the connections between people who meet each other and perform cultural and political actions, forming a new concept of active citizenship.
The discussion will be moderated by Mamorinos Segbo, secretary of the Burkina Faso Community of Greece and resident of Movement Radio with his talk show titled ‘The Conference Radio Show’, a show delving deep into current politics and historical issues. ‘Communities II’ will take place in Galaxy Studio at Onassis Stegi. After the event, a gathering will follow at Grasshopper Athens, with a dj-set by DJ Law, a member of AfrobeatAthens Crew.‘Communities ΙΙ’ is a one-day event that focuses on the migrant communities of Movement Radio, exploring the power of networks and the movements of people, sounds, and ideas through discussions and presentations.
Ivorian Community of Greece
Ivorian Community of Greece (La communauté ivoirienne de la Grèce, in French) is a community organization registered in Greece. Currently, there are 7 board members who are volunteers and as of October 2019, there are 107 registered members. The organization believes that diversity is a source of growth and progress for all people living in Greece and it is dedicated to actively shaping this process through its community activities and engagement with local population and initiatives.

The Congolese Community of Congo Brazzaville In Greece (CCBG) is the continuation of the Bisso na Bisso association (translated as ‘between us’) in Lingala. It has been active since October 2015, with 5 board members trying their best to ensure unity and solidarity within the community, which as of today counts 120 registered members.
Habibi.Works
Since August 2016, the team members of Habibi.Works from 16 different countries have run this makerspace for refugees and locals in the north of Greece. In a context in which sustainable responses are rare, the project provides platforms for education, empowerment and encounters.

The Syrian and Greek Youth Forum
The Syrian and Greek Youth Forum (SGYF) is an international activism movement based in Athens. They have been working together as active citizens since 2018, drawing on their diverse backgrounds and building a platform for citizenship. SGYF has developed methods of creative activism: using culture as a tool of political participation, of finding connections and shared histories, of belonging and becoming the city.
