People aged 18–35 with some or no photography experience from Dourgouti and other parts of Athens

Dourgouti is a fixed point of reference for the Onassis Stegi. This time round, a group of young 20 participants aged 18–35 from the neighbourhood and the rest of Athens set out to map the unique features of this historic district in photographs and moving images.

Dourgouti isn't just the Onassis Stegi's local neighbourhood, it's one of Athens' historic quarters—a place of multiple layers, admixes and incorporations. A palimpsest, Dourgouti has its historical memories to share, but it can also tell us about the workings of a social melting point in which a mix of different cultures ultimately acquired a unique identity and character of its own.We will be capturing the rich history and constituent elements of this society visually with a group of 20 young people aged 18–35, ten of them from the neighbourhood, the other ten from other parts of Athens.

Through a theoretical seminar on visual culture, ongoing guidance on practical matters from the leader-photographers, exercises designed to focus the participants on framing and querying the photographic process, plus the supplementary use of the spoken word as sound or text, the workshops will gradually lead the participants through organizing the narrative to producing a finished work which will be shown in the neighbourhood.
