Dancing to connect 2013-14

For the second year running, the Onassis Stegi is staging the “Dancing to Connect” educational program, which seeks to give school children the opportunity to discover codes of collaboration and communication through dance. The first iteration of the program was run in Athens schools by the Battery Dance Company from the US along with five Greek dancers/dance teachers, each of whom came from a different background. When the program was over, the five formed the Chapter Two company, joining forces for the first time, they set out to shed light on the process whereby dance ‘connects’. The resulting choreography was premiered in New York in August 2013.

The Onassis Stegi will be bringing young people into contact with contemporary dance again this year, running the “Dancing to Connect” program in five schools in Athens and another five in Patras. We will have the opportunity to enjoy the results at a special performance on the Onassis Stegi’s Main Stage which will feature the 10 choreographies of the schools of Athens and Patras.

All these interesting and very different choreographies share a common denominator: as the result of collective work and improvisation, they reveal the connecting power of dance—which is the goal of the program.
