For educators in secondary education

The workshop will take place in two five-hour meetings over the course of two days.

How can you get every student in the class to participate? Cavafy’s work becomes a means by which we uncover hidden talents, enliven the classroom, and learn using the particular abilities each of us carries within.

We can’t please everyone, but when you’re a schoolteacher, there are certainly ways to try. How? Opening up the educational experience to new techniques, tailored to each student’s individual abilities.

Through a workshop specifically designed for educators, we will become familiar with the theoretical and practical philosophy behind the workshops in the series “Cavafy Goes to School”; we’ll learn how to read a poem “differently”, and how to attempt new approaches to Cavafy’s work, tailored to the talents and abilities of each student. Poetry becomes painting, movement, even a digital image, in hopes of understanding the poem better while also expressing ourselves through it.

At the end of the workshop, participants will leave better equipped to recognize each student’s particular talents, and with the certainty that anyone can create a work of art.
