We stay home, but we are not alone. And this is confirmed in practice by the thousands of people, from all parts of the world, who “cohabit” every week in the YouTube digital channel of the Onassis Foundation, breathing new life into significant instances of speech, movement, music, thoughts and ideas. From April 24, new productions are added to the active digital channel, which already hosts works of great creators and thinkers, such as Akram Khan, Werner Herzog, Guerilla Girls, Paul Giamatti, Dimitri Nanopoulos, Maira Kalman, Paul Holdengräber, Simon Critchley, Lena Kitsopoulou, Dimitris Karantzas, Argyro Chioti and Vasistas, Aris Biniaris, RootlessRoot, Patricia Apergi, Blaine Reininger.
Until Sunday, April 26, we sit comfortably on our sofas and dream that we are in Epidaurus, together with Aristophanes’ “Birds”, directed by Nikos Karathanos. On that same evening, Sunday, April 26, at 21:00, the Onassis Foundation takes us to another captivating and symbolic space, the Ancient Theater of Delphi, where we will attend a YouTube live premiere of Euripides’ intercultural “Troades (The Trojan Women)”, uniquely directed by Theodoros Terzopoulos (the show will be available on our channel until the 6th of May).
On Saturday, April 25, at 21:00, you can enjoy a one-of-a-kind artistic collaboration: K. Bhta and ARTéfacts ensemble’s “Cohabitation” in 2013, when contemporary music and pop-electronica “cohabited” on the Main Stage of Stegi.
On our channel, from Friday, April 24, Lenio Kaklea in her latest work, “Practical Encyclopedia. Detours”, traces, through the body, the social landscape of Europe, as it was just before the outbreak of the pandemic. Aris Laskos and Anastasia Yannaki bring teenage students on stage, in the theatrical performance “A Few Square Meters”, presented at the Onassis Youth Festival 2019 and lasting almost as long as a class period, during which the teenagers’ bodies might be restricted to a few square meters, yet their minds travel great distances.
And, since people were always attracted by the unknown, selected incunabula books of the Onassis Library trigger a historical analysis of their exploration efforts –from the dawn of the modern age to the great challenge of space– by professors of Space Physics and History & Archaeology from the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, at the event “The Attraction of the Unknown”.
Last but not least, this week is dedicated to our Alexandrian poet, C. P. Cavafy, since the 29th of April is the anniversary of his birth and death. We get to know how academic researchers, students and artists have approached the poet Cavafy, through programs and actions of the Onassis Foundation, and we explore instances of the poet’s life. From Friday, April 24, you can watch Daniel Mendelsohn in an exciting conversation with Dimitris Papanikolaou, you can learn how the Cavafy archive is linked to the archives of other writers in the interwar period at the seminar “The Cavafy Archive and the Literary Scene of the Interwar Period”, you can discover original artistic works by Joana Hadjithomas & Khalil Joreige, Maria Varela, Yorgos Taxiarchopoulos, Bill Psarras, inspired by Cavafy’s work, at “Visual Dialogues 2013”, and get inspired yourselves by the educational program “Cavafy goes to school”. And actions do not end here.
