Nancy Duxbury

Nancy Duxbury, PhD, is a senior researcher and co-coordinator of the Cities, Cultures and Architecture Research Group at the Centre for Social Studies (CES), University of Coimbra, Portugal. She is also a member of the European Expert Network on Culture.
Her research has examined culture in local sustainable development, cultural mapping, and creative tourism, among other topics. She leads the CES research team within the European research project “UNCHARTED: Understanding, Capturing and Fostering the Societal Value of Culture” and was involved in the South Africa-EU Dialogue on “Cultural Mapping, Planning and Impact Assessment for Sustainable and Just Urban Development.”She was also the principal investigator of “CREATOUR: Creative Tourism Destination Development in Small Cities and Rural Areas,” a national research-and-application project (2016–2020) that catalyzed creative tourism pilot projects in small cities and rural areas across four regions of Portugal. She holds a PhD in Communication from Simon Fraser University, Vancouver, Canada.
