ufaFabrik: When a dream becomes true

A spirit of optimism in the West Berlin of the seventies: A group of young activists peacefully put the abandoned, former film-processing laboratory of the uFA in Berlin Tempelhof back into life. In the following years, they create a unique life and work project on arts and culture, sustainability and social commitment. In 2004, this project was honored with the UN-Habitat “Best Practice to Improve the Social Environment” as an innovative example of urban development. In 2019, the ufaFabrik celebrated its 40th anniversary.

In view of rising rents and the consequential displacement of more and more residents from cities’ downtown areas, the film refers to current topics: How do we want to live in the future? What values will form our society of tomorrow? How can communal life be combined with individual freedom? And how have ordinary people managed to turn their dreams into reality with their own efforts?
