Introduction

The Athenian urban landscape as a place of discovery, dialogue, thought and creation. Discover unexpected parts of the city and experiment on creative writing, artistic typography and image-making.

Guided by classic texts on creative wandering (also known as "flânerie"), you reach the center of the city, as you visit some of the most typical areas of Athens, and you gather material, in order to capture your own experience as a "flâneur".

In this workshop, which is designed for teachers who work in secondary and/or primary education, we will attempt to see the city we know in a new light, we will wander around in familiar, but also unexpected sites, we will collect images and words from the landscape, and will try to reconstruct our personal experiences by compiling a unique art book – making use of new, original texts, and processing images with analog and digital tools. This way, each student will create his/her own book about Athens, which will feature special content, shape, texture, and materials.

The aim of this workshop is to offer participants a “toolbox” for observing, documenting, and processing their lived experience, which they can later use as part of the educational process they follow, regardless of their areas of specialization; moreover, the workshop aspires to urge the participants to experiment themselves in creative writing, artistic typography, and image-making, like contemporary "flâneurs" do.
