A musical experiment is born in the neighborhood of the Onassis Stegi.

“Music for the New World” is a project of the Onassis Stegi that aims to create a new kind of music, taking as its starting point a particular social context. It is a collaboration between the Onassis Stegi, ‘Ohi Pezoume’ Performing Arts Company, which brings along a wealth of experiences from their project “DourgoutiIsland Hotel Project”, and the contemporary music ensemble ARTéfacts.

“Music for the New World” takes the neighborhood and the content of “DourgoutiIsland Hotel Project” project as ‘libretti’ that function as starting points and thematic core for the creation of new music compositions.

The goal here is not to create narrative works or program music, in the traditional sense. Instead, it aims to spur musical thinking about how a natural, urban reality and history is processed into orchestral music.

The project will result in a series of concerts, onsite performances and documentary productions within the span of two years.
