How can words be replaced with musical notes in order to unlock the emotions and skills of children on the broader autism spectrum? Experience a music program devoted to inclusion and communication.

For an eighth year, the Music Loves Autism educational program will be touring provincial Greek towns to bring mixed groups of children – with and without autism spectrum disorder (ASD) – and their parents in contact with music.

Using musical notes, sounds, and rhythms as a mode of communication, a piano and a saxophone are transformed into means of connecting and conversing in new and different ways.

This music and movement filled workshop champions teamwork, encourages self-expression, promotes social skills, and fosters emotional maturity in each child. Set within a safe environment, musicians, special education teachers, parents, and children all get to know one another as they play and sing together. The goal of this workshop is to get children with and without ASD to unleash their potential in creative ways through experiences drawn from their senses, and from working as a team.

This program includes a two-hour experiential workshop for adults.

Prerequisites for taking part

Each child is accompanied by only one parent. In certain circumstances, close family members such as siblings are also allowed to take part in the workshop.

The first session, on the Friday, is addressed solely to those parents who will be accompanying their children throughout their time at the workshop.

Participants must attend all workshop sessions.

Application and selection process

Applications are to be submitted via email – sent to education@onassis.org – by the head of each school group.
