When words become notes, music can open avenues of communication and connection with children across the autism spectrum. A program for those who want to create such opportunities for play, contact and emotional expression.

For the tenth consecutive year, the Onassis Foundation’s educational program “Music Loves Autism” brings mixed groups of children with and without Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and their parents into contact with music. In this context, hands-on experiential workshops are offered for Special Education professionals who want to discover how movement and music can assist the creative development of children with ASD.

A group experience where self-expression is encouraged, social skills are promoted, emotional maturity is fostered and the recognition of each child’s uniqueness is enhanced. The goal of the hands-on workshops is for teachers to learn how the structured music and movement activities of the program empower children with or without ASD to release their strengths through experiences that they perceive sensorially.

The hands-on workshops in Athens take place in 4 two-hour standalone sessions, while in regional cities they are completed in a two-hour session in the context of the wider program hosted by each school.

Participation requirements

Each hands-on workshop is standalone and completed in a two-hour session.

At the end of the hands-on workshops, teachers will be given a certificate of participation and a copy of the songs and tunes from the CD “A small window”.

Application and selection process

Completing the online application does not automatically guarantee a place in the activity.

The selection is based on a first-come, first-served basis.
