The Onassis Foundation loves and supports cinema in all its forms. Once more, this year, Onassis Stegi will host the 15th Iris Awards of the Hellenic Film Academy on its Main Stage. The award ceremony will take place on Wednesday, June 26, hosted by actor Yiannis Niarros and directed by Asimina Proedrou.

Iris Awards 2024

One hundred films were submitted for the Iris Awards 2024 of the Hellenic Film Academy throughout the year on the occasion of the institution’s celebration of fifteen ceremonies to date. One hundred different points of departure that share the same destination: the same global journey around the screens of the world. This year, following endless hours of screenings and discussions, thirty-seven nominated films come together on the Onassis Stegi Main Stage with rising and established creators, actors, contributors, and institution representatives to honor and be honored.

In a cinematic evening directed by Asimina Proedrou and hosted by actor Yiannis Niarros, the nominated films vying for the glittering Iris statuettes of the Hellenic Film Academy will compete in the 22 award categories. Among them is a co-production of Onassis Culture, the film “Crossing” by Aineias Tsamatis and Katerina Mavrogeorgi, which is shortlisted in the Best Short Fiction Film category, as well as the Onassis Film Award winner at the 29th Athens International Film Festival, “Kafka's Collection of Porn” by Aristotelis Maragkos, shortlisted in the Best Short Animation Film category.

ONASSIS CULTURE AT IRIS AWARDS 2024

Crossing

A railway crossing in the middle of nowhere. Two wooden huts stand facing each other, surrounded by bright yellow hills and a wide-open horizon. Two guards: lonesome Yannis, who never leaves his post, and easygoing Antonis, attuned to the idle landscape. Every once in a while, a voice from the speaker announces the arrival of a train. The two guards lower the barriers manually. Nothing seems to stir their daily routine. But when the time comes, love will find you wherever you are, shattering all certainties. A romantic and Arcadian western.

The short film by Aineias Tsamatis and Katerina Mavrogeorgi, starring Yannis Tsortekis, Karafil Shena, and Angeliki Papathemeli, is a co-production of the Onassis Foundation and was screened in the National Competition section of the 46th Drama International Short Film Festival. “Crossing” won the Original Music Award, the Set Design Award, and the Greek Film Critics Association Award.

Kafka's Collection of Porn

Fragmentary in nature, this fictional biography of Franz Kafka was inspired by the fake rumors around his pornographic collection. He writes relentlessly, he masturbates, he dies. And in this process of his, we discover a part of our very own selves.

The six-minute short film animation by Aristotelis Maragkos is a co-production of the Onassis Foundation and won the Script Award and the Onassis Award at the 29th Athens International Film Festival in 2023.
