Cyberspace has its own rules. In this workshop we familiarize ourselves with the new concepts that concern its function and our rights and we learn how to design educational activities to inform and protect the citizens of tomorrow.
Our activity on the Internet automatically turns us into algorithmic citizens. For example, no “like” is unimportant any more. Every single “like” is sold through Facebook to advertisers, while being interlinked with the “like” of our friends and other Facebook users to connect people with similar interests. That is how we unknowingly become members of a commercial mass.
In this workshop, we aim to empower the citizens of tomorrow in their own school environment, cultivating critical thinking through art and research. We will speak about the way the Internet works today and familiarise ourselves with the software and applications that can be employed in the design of educational activities.
We can also examine together works of art that raise issues of digital rights and are relevant to the nature of the algorithmic citizen. Works of digital art, internet art, documentaries and performances become smart tools through which children may approach these contemporary concepts.
