An open-access webinar series for anyone who’s interested in improving their digital skills.
As part of the “Hack the Art: Yanoulis Halepas” Panhellenic Digital Competition for Schoolchildren, we’re organizing an open-access webinar series (held on the Zoom platform) to help improve the skills of the school teams taking part in the competition, and of anyone else who’d like to learn about pioneering computer applications and techniques for the creation of digital works.
Learn to structure educational scenarios, and to design and create 3D video games. Discover the possibilities offered by augmented and virtual reality applications in the educational process, or tell a digital story centered on the life and work of the legendary Greek artist Yanoulis Halepas.
These webinars, specially designed by expert digital technology sector professionals, feature the presentation of pioneering digital tools and applications, with additional materials provided that offer technical support for the realization of first-rate digital works.
Program
Creating and Implementing Scenarios for Apps and Video Games
In this webinar, we’ll be focusing on writing and realizing basic scenarios for apps and video games. We’ll be tackling the choice of subject, timeframe, and narrative features, by carefully and consistently weaving all the elements of our digital work together, analyzing the development of characters (backstories, psychological makeup), and outlining the action with a view to creating a powerful plot that will help players identify with the lead character and their goals, and hold their interest to the end. This work is to be implemented, in the main, on the Twine platform, with which we can create simple or complex narrative games without the need for any advanced programming knowledge.
Webinar Lead:
Kostas Karpouzis, Assistant Professor – Department of Communication, Media, and Culture at the Panteion University of Social and Political Sciences
Creating Virtual (VR) Exhibitions Using ArtSteps
This webinar begins by preparing and processing the digital materials that are to be used to create a VR exhibition (color profile use, proportions and dimensions of works, preparation of texts about and details of each work). Next follows the design of an exhibition space – on paper or using some free design program – that meets the needs of presenting these works. The final step is an introduction to the ArtSteps platform, presenting all the possibilities and options on offer. Once all these stages have been completed, the digital exhibition is to be published online, and possible ways of sharing it will be considered.

Augmented Reality in Education: Using Blippar
This webinar will introduce participants to the practice of augmented reality use in educational settings. It will also give a demonstration of Blippar, which will be used to create illustrative examples.
Webinar Leads:
- Christos Troussas, Assistant Professor – Department of Informatics and Computer Engineering at the University of West Attica
- Christos Papakostas, Doctoral Candidate – Department of Informatics and Computer Engineering at the University of West Attica
- Panagiotis Strousopoulos, Doctoral Candidate
Creating 3D Video Games Using the Unity Platform
This webinar will take us, step by step, through the creation of a game on the basis of a specific scenario. Various libraries will also be presented, where you can search for free assets that can be incorporated by participants into their digital works. There will also be a demonstration of the process involved in presenting a scenario idea in diagrammatic form (using the miro.com platform), and in creating a game design document (GDD) – essential tools for the realization of any game or application.
Webinar Lead:
Renia Papathanasiou, XR designer & developer, Doctoral Candidate – School of Film at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki
Stop Motion: Creating Animations Using a Smartphone and Your Imagination!
This webinar will see the presentation of traditional animation techniques via an app in order to create an animated video using a smartphone. The final file can then be stored on a computer, and presented or shared as video material.
