Introduction
Are you musicians? Do you want to play with Uitti and Davis, the cutting-edge duo? Come and explore the possibilities of improvisation with two leading soloists.
Cellist Frances-Marie Uitti and bass clarinetist Gareth Davis share an eclectic musical background covering everything from contemporary classical music through to free improvisation, rock, pop and noise.
In every case both musicians have pushed the possibilities of their respective instruments sonically and technically. Uitti pioneered a revolutionary dimension to the cello by transforming it for the first time into a polyphonic instrument capable of sustained chordal writing by using two bows in one hand.
This workshop will focus on the use of instrumental extended techniques and their context in various musical forms, explore existing repertoire and look at improvisational possibilities.
Participants can bring their musical instrument in the second part of the workshop to improvise with the musicians.
