We stay home. But we insist on going out, through the Onassis Foundation digital channel. For a second week, the Onassis Foundation uploads and shares on its YouTube channel sold-out shows, podcasts, educational programs, virtual cinematic experiences and cinema awards, online courses and secret concerts, free to watch and without any time limitation.
The users have spent 1,500,000 minutes on the Onassis Foundation YouTube channel during the past week, more than 1,000 new members subscribe every day, while 636,000 views of our artistic and educational actions have been recorded within seven days. With live YouTube premieres and live chat of the Foundation with artists and the audience, the cultural channel of the Onassis Foundation is here to stay. During these strange days that we are all going through, we have experienced the creation –via YouTube– of a new community of people who hold on to art, culture, literature, education, as a pledge of normality and a hope for the future. The digital actions of the Onassis Foundation direct their powers toward new means of expression, interaction and meaningful connection with the audience, with a program that aims to entertain, educate, unite, trigger discussions. Become part of this interactive community here.
Visit virtually, with live YouTube premieres and active delightful audience comments: the Main Stage of Stegi, with Efthimis Filippou’s Ρομπ/Rob, directed by Dimitris Karantzas (2018), on Friday, April 10, at 19:00; the Upper Stage of Stegi on Saturday at 19:00, where the tribute to Efthimis Filippou continues, with Emata (Bloods), directed by Argyro Chioti and the Vasistas Company (2014); Joe’s Pub in Manhattan on Saturday, April 11, at 21:00, where Lena Kitsopoulou sings Rebetika: The Blues of Greece (2019); and travel around the world with the Greek premiere of Babis Makridis’ film Birds (Or How to Be One) (2020), in a live premiere & after talk on Sunday, April 12, at 19:00 (this video will be available on the channel until Wednesday, April 15, at 19:00). On Tuesday, April 14, at 16:00, attend virtually the Iris Awards, since the ceremony, which was programmed to take place at the Main Stage of Stegi, will stream instead, presented by Christos Loulis and Elli Tringou, so that the Hellenic Film Academy, with the modesty and respect that the current conditions call for, will have the opportunity to honor the nominees for their films.
More instances, images, discussions and melodies will be available on the Onassis Foundation digital channel from Friday, April 10: Antigone in Ferguson, presented at the Onassis USA in New York, with famous American actors accompanied by a choir (2016), and the dance performance Cementary by Patricia Apergi and the Aerites Dance Company (2017), Klangforum Wien and their Happiness Machine (2019) that took place at Stegi, Werner Herzog in an exciting conversation with the Director of the Onassis Los Angeles (OLA) and host of noted interviews in the New York Public Library for years, Paul Holdengräber (2019), as well as a short documentary about the mathematician Christina Karafyllia (2020).
If you opt for education, browse through the lectures of the Cavafy archive, learn about sustainability in fashion and the role of technology for a transparent supply chain from Crafting the Future, and realize how timeless “Elliniki Nomarchia (Hellenic Nomarchy)” is by watching professor Eleni Kourmantzi’s lecture.
And surprises never end. Stay tuned.
