We stay home, but we are not alone. From Friday, April 17, the Onassis Foundation adds more important instances from its rich program in Greece and the USA to its YouTube digital channel. The channel has attracted art lovers from 54 countries, from Brazil to South Africa, from New Zealand to Uruguay, from Canada to Vietnam within less than two weeks, creating a lab of ideas, images, performances and educational programs, constantly streamed and updated. Apart from recorded performances of Greek and international artists as well as Greek premieres, podcasts of important intellectuals will be added this week, trying to help us decipher the new way of life.
On Holy Friday, April 17, at 21:00, watch the live premiere of XENOS by Akram Khan, the last solo performance in the career of the great choreographer, whose world premiere took place at Stegi in February 2018, along with a stellar creative team. On Easter Sunday, April 19, at 21:00, attend the live premiere of Birds directed by Nikos Karathanos, as they were first presented at the Ancient Theater of Epidaurus in August 2016, making their first “flight” for the Greek audience, before embarking on a heartwarming journey around the globe (the show will be available for one week).
From April 17, another performance from the Onassis Youth Festival 2019 will be available on our digital channel, the delightful Summer Rain directed by Vassia Attarian and Myrto Makridi (Ntouth Theater Company) with students from the 41st Athens High School, while the third session of the Workshop on the Organization and Access Policy of Archival Sources will be added to the Cavafy Archive. The Onassis Library presents Akyllas Karazisis reading passages from “Erotos Apotelesmata” (The Results of Love), an anonymous author’s work, the first artistic prose creation of Modern Greek Literature, in Professor Eleni Kourmantzi’s lecture “Erotos Apotelesmata, Vienna 1792”.
Last but not least, two new podcasts will be available. In one of them, the Founding Executive Director of Onassis Los Angeles (OLA) and host of noted interviews at the New York Public Library for years, Paul Holdengräber, presents his conversation with the author Maira Kalman in the context of “The Quarantine Tapes”, his 20-minute conversations with various guests about how they experience the global pandemic and social distancing. In the latter, the philosopher, writer, Professor of Philosophy at the New School for Social Research in New York City and board member of the Onassis Foundation, Simon Critchley, explains, in his own unique style, the ways in which the Covid-19 virus can reconnect our existence in the podcast: Simon Critchley on Looking at the Contemporary World Through the Lens of Punk, Greek Tragedy, and Humor At a Distance.
