For a seventh week, the Onassis Foundation digital channel on YouTube presents archive and new productions from its wide scope of actions. From Simon McBurney and Complicite to Blitz, from Dimitris Xanthopoulos to Leonidas Konstantarakos and Alaska, from George Pelecanos to Fiona Shaw, from encounters occasioned by Cavafy poems to works of art inspired by Homer’s Odyssey, from Dimitris Kamarotos to Simon Critchley, art never ceases to supply us with inspiration and courage in hard times.
On Friday, May 15, we happen on an unprecedented synaesthetic experience with The Encounter , guided by the unique Simon McBurney and Complicite. An international co-production of the Onassis Stegi that invites us to commune as never before with nature, time, memory, culture—and hence with ourselves, in an “exotic” hi-tech experience which beams us into the tropical rain forests of the Amazon and into the realms of the subconscious. On Sunday, May 17, we live thousands of lives at once with the toured across Europe Late Night by Blitz, which premieres live on YouTube. The stories of a unique urban dérive which exist on the borders of documentary and fiction, installation and performance (X- apartments, Fast Forward Festival 2, 2015), constitute the topic of the documentary X apartments by Leonidas Konstantarakos and Alaska, produced by Stegi, which premieres live on YouTube on Wednesday, May 20.
From May 15, a work-anthem to friendship and humanity, Moskov-Selim by Georgios Vizyinos, directed by Dimitris Xanthopoulos, will be made available on our channel. From that same day, you can watch the innovative music project Atlas Athens, A Sound Cartography οf Europe, in which three composers presented three different works in concerts that took place simultaneously in three cities in 2019. Athens, Karlsruhe and Paris converged live with sound and video, in a new sonic map beyond geographical borders. A fascinating conversation with George Pelecanos “the greatest living American crime writer” according to Stephen King, is added to the playlist Encounters, in a conversation at the Onassis Stegi.
The Cavafy Archive keeps on immersing us into the unique world of the Alexandrian poet C. P. Cavafy, with the program Seven Poems, Seven Lessons, in which the analysis of one poem at a time (this week the poem “Waiting for the Barbarians” is presented) turns to an in-depth discussion about Cavafy poetry, while the Onassis Library presents a discussion on the Homeric Epics and the ways artists depicted them across centuries, with university professors and PhD candidates replying to the aforementioned questions in a live conversation with the audience, accompanied by the narration of the actress Alexandra Aidini (Artworks inspired by the Homeric epics).
The Onassis USA invites us to a walk through the 2017 exhibition Emotions, along with the famous Irish actress Fiona Shaw, in Let's Walk with Fiona Shaw , from the walk-through conversations series of the philosopher and board member of the Onassis Foundation, Simon Critchley. Meanwhile, Simon Critchley inaugurates a new podcasts series titled Apply-Degger – An analysis of Heidegger’s thought in “Being and Time”, since Critchley believes that the encounter with Martin Heidegger’s work “Being and Time” can change a person’s life. This week, the three first podcasts of the series are made available.
