Stefanos P. Tamvakis

BIO

Stefanos P. Tamvakis is a Greek businessman from Alexandria, Egypt. He studied Business Administration at Cambridge and earned his honorary doctorate from the Department of Public Administration at Panteion University. Apart from his activities in business and trade, since 1976 he has been involved in the activities of the Greek community in Alexandria, when he was elected to the Board of Directors of the Charitable Society Aeschylus – Arion. In 1984 he was elected Community Representative of the Greek Community of Alexandria. In 1990 he was elected President of the Community, a position he held until 2002, when he became Honorary President. In 1995 he was elected Vice President of the Council of Hellenes Abroad, and Coordinator for Asia and Africa, and was unanimously re-elected three times. In December 2006 he was elected President of the Council of Hellenes Abroad (SAE) and held this position till 2012. From 2009 till 2011 he has served on the Board of Directors of the Center for Hellenistic Studies of Alexandria. He has been awarded the Golden Cross of the Order of the Phoenix, and was decorated with the highest distinction of St. Marks the Evangelist by the late Patriarch of Alexandria, Parthenios, with the High Cross of the Patriarchal Rank of St. Sava, of which he is Master of Ceremonies, by the late Patriarch of Alexandria and All Africa, Peter XII and by the late Patriarch of Moscow and All Russia, Alexy II. Since 2003 he has been an elected member of the Board of Directors of both the Alexander S. Onassis Public Benefit and Business Foundations.
