Martha Vassiliadi studied Modern Greek Philology at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki and Comparative Literature at the Sorbonne and Geneva Universities. She has taught at the University of Geneva and has been teaching at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki since 2011. Her research interests focus on the poetry of the 19th and 20th centuries, the reception of European myths in Greek literature, myth criticism, the representation of antiquity in new iterations of cultural discourses, as well as female figures in literature.
Her monograph is about the relationship of C. P. Cavafy with the Literature of Decay. Her research has been published in Greek and international journals, addressing hermeneutic issues predominantly related to the Alexandrian poet’s work from a comparative perspective; she also works on the epistles of George Seferis and the relations of his generation with the French tradition. Her essays on epistolary writing are to be published in a consolidated volume, while at the same time, an edition of her individual studies on the poetry of C. P. Cavafy is under preparation.
