Marios Psaras

Filmmaker and film scholar, Marios Psaras was born in Cyprus and lives in London, UK.

He has a PhD in Film Studies from Queen Mary University of London, has taught film theory at King’s College London, and University of Greenwich, and has lectured in Europe and the US. He has published on contemporary Greek, European, and world queer cinema, including the monograph “The Queer Greek Weird Wave: Ethics, Politics and the Crisis of Meaning” (London: Palgrave Macmillan, 2016).

Psaras is artistic director of Cyprus Short Film Day (London), and a member of the Hellenic Film Academy. Before moving to London, he had worked professionally in radio and TV production in Cyprus, as well as in the theater. He has produced and directed three short films, and two short documentaries. In 2018, he was appointed Cultural Counsellor at the Cyprus High Commission in London.
