Bio

Marina Gioti is a filmmaker and visual artist based in Αthens, Greece. In her works, which comprise of films, installations and media art pieces, she often revisits historical eras and stories offering parallel readings to dominant narratives. Archival and scientific research alongside observation play a crucial role in her practice, while objets trouvés and cultural ‘debris’ serve as raw material or situate themselves at the center of some of her works. Her work has been presented worldwide at festivals, including Berlinale, Toronto, CPH:DOX, Transmediale as well as in museum shows and biennials including the 5th Thessaloniki Βiennale of Contemporary Art, the WRO Media Art Biennale in Wroclaw and the 1st Anren Biennale in China. In 2017 she was a participating artist at documenta 14 in Αthens. Throughout 2019 she spent a year-long residency at Ircam-Centre Pompidou in Paris, for the development of the audiovisual project “Atlas-A Sound Cartography of Europe”, a joint commission by Ircam, ZKM-Center for Art and Media Karlsruhe and Οnassis Stegi. Since 2020 she is programme advisor and producer at the Αthens-based movement.radio.

Marina Gioti is a participant of the Exchange Residencies Program of Οnassis AiR 2019-20 at Beirut Art Residency (Lebanon) and of the Tailor-made Fellowships program 2022-23.
